This classic swamp-dwelling species will develop basal rosettes when larger, giving the appearance of a carpet of pitchers with few or no leaves. It grows easily in acidic media, but needs high temperatures, perpetually moist roots and high humidity. This item originates from about 750 m altitude and therefore tolerates lower temperatures than other forms of the species commonly in cultivation. Hence, we class it as an ‘intermediate’ grower. When juvenile, the pitchers are uniform yellow-green with attractive red-tinted leaves as the photos show. When mature, the pitchers develop a light red speckling, but the peristomes remain a uniform yellow-green, and makes a s triking contrast to the red leaves. History: First introduced in Feb 2012.

Climate: Lowland. We find it grows best between about 32 deg. C (90 deg. F) in the daytime, down to 24 deg. C (75 deg. F) at night, although it will tolerate temperatures outside this range.
